Accounting Firm's Women Volunteer At Local Habitat For Humanity Project

Schlabig volunteers at the project site

Akron, OH, July 15, 2008…Last Friday, Team Schlabig – a team of 10 women employees from Schlabig – volunteered with Habitat for Humanity’s “Women Build” project. Team Schlabig helped build a second story onto the home located in Akron. Schlabig & Associates, Ltd is a leading certified public accounting firm offering strategic services for Ohio-based businesses and individuals.

“Our commitment to the well being of the Northeast Ohio community that we service is apparent during humanitarian events like the Habitat for Humanity build and the involvement of ‘Team Schlabig’,” said Schlabig & Associates, Ltd Managing Partner Tom Hager, CPA.

According to Habitat for Humanity, a “Women Build” home is completely funded and constructed by women within the community. Schlabig organized a team of 10 women from the firm’s Akron and Kent offices. The team included Jenni Mancine, Marian Stolzenburg, Laura Schick, Betsy McIntyre, Sylvia Matheos, Diane Stojak, Donna Wutrick, Debbie Petrone, Sharon Sledzik and Kelly Nizzer Bates.

“It was exhausting work, but the end result was so rewarding,” said Kelly Nizzer Bates, firm administrator. “We put up the second floor walls and the inner framework. When we arrived, there wasn’t even an upstairs!”

The Habitat for Humanity home that Team Schlabig helped build is located at 396 North Ave., Akron. “When we were signing into the work area, I jokingly answered a colleague who asked what we might be doing today with a remark about completing the second floor,” said Sharon Sledzik, tax manager, CPA. “It was amazing that we actually did do that! It was an incredible experience!”
