Thriving Local CPA Firm Celebrates 50 Years Of Service To Ohio Businesses, Individuals

Akron, Ohio, Sept. 15, 2011...Schlabig & Associates, Ltd, a leading certified public accounting firm, has launched a celebration marking its 50th year of providing accounting and financial services to Ohio-based businesses and individuals. The firm is one of the oldest locally owned, independent CPA firms in Northeast Ohio.

“Most 50th anniversary celebrations are focused on the past, but our team has worked very hard to position our firm for significant growth over the next several years,” said Thomas Hager, CPA, managing partner of Schlabig & Associates. “We have maintained our intense focus on the needs of local and regional clients while expanding our expertise and resources in several additional practice areas. It’s a formula that will drive our growth in an era when many independent firms are disappearing.”

Founded in 1962, Schlabig & Associates has provided trusted accounting and business counsel to a diverse portfolio of clients across Ohio. Driven by its mission to “Advise clients how to keep more of what they earn, with no surprises,” the firm has thrived in an industry increasingly dominated by national consolidators.

To reinforce its competitive position and expand its service portfolio, the firm in 2009 joined the BDO Seidman Alliance, a nationwide association of independently owned local and regional CPA firms with experience covering virtually every financial and operational need of today’s businesses. “Our affiliation with BDO Seidman brings us the reach and resources of the world’s fifth-largest accounting firm and extends our knowledge base globally to serve area businesses that have established overseas operations,” Hager said.

The principle of putting clients first and investing in new capabilities has been evident throughout the firm’s history. Schlabig has maintained close relationships with client businesses of all sizes as well as the region’s leading banks, law firms, professional associations and other constituents. This unique focus on local relationships has enabled the firm to successfully combat larger, non-local competitors.

“Our clients tell us that we’ve played a pivotal role in their business growth and stability,” Hager said. “We’re customer centric and it shows. We understand what our clients are facing, locally and nationally. We help position them for growth in a business environment that is changing almost daily.”

The firm, which moved in 1978 from rented offices in Cascade Plaza to its current Akron location on Wolf Ledges Parkway, opened a second office, in Kent, in 1981. It acquired Ravenna’s largest CPA firm in 1988. In 2007 Schlabig consolidated its Portage County operations in a new, 5,400-square-foot office at 2275 State Route 59 in Kent.
